Diesel Fuel Additives

Many diesel owners believe the use of fuel additives is unnecessary and an unwarranted cost, but knowledgeable operators understand the benefits of using these products year-round.

There are many different brands of products available to the diesel owner. Some work as advertised, others maybe don’t perform as well as the label on the bottle would indicate. Be aware of products that have a low treat rate, these products don’t necessarily have strong chemistry but their marketing department knows diesel owners are cost sensitive, and products that treat at a ratio of one or two ounces per-ten gallons seem like a great value. Not all products perform equally. Many products have two treatment ratios, one for clean- up, which should be used upon initial use, and another ratio for maintenance (continued use) Typically the maintenance ratio is about half the treatment rate used for clean-up. The fact that they have two ratios is okay, it’s just that the lower rate is usually the one that’s promoted on the bottle so it appears to have a lower cost per use. Read the fine print.
